Vancouver Island, Canada-Moderate earthquake below Tofino
Update 02:34 UTC : Based on the tectonic image below and the preliminary data, we believe that this is a sunduction earthquake triggered by the subducting Juan de Fuca plate beneath the North American plate (as most of the Western Canada earthquakes are). A depth of 30 km confirms this theory. The Focal Mechanism, once published, may confirm this theoryUpdate 02:26 UTC : Based on the current preliminary data is is still unsure whether this earthquake may be able to generate slight damage. We have currently depths of 33 km (no damage) and 5 km (slight damage possible)
