Los hoteleros de Baleares ya asumen que la ecotasa nunca se eliminará. Los empresarios turísticos albergaban alguna esperanza de que la actual presidenta del Gobierno balear, Marga Prohens (PP), decidiese suprimirla cuando llegase al poder, pero ha pasado más de un año desde el cambio de gobierno y el impuesto no solo no se eliminará sino que aumentará la cuantía durante tres meses al año. Marga Prohens nunca ha tenido una especial relación con los hoteleros de las Islas. La presidenta balear entiende que tampoco les debe nada a los empresarios turísticos, que durante ocho años se pusieron de perfil ante las decisiones turísticas adoptadas por el Gobierno de la socialista Francina Armengol. La patronal hotelera que ahora pide a Prohens que suprima la ecotasa por ser "un gobierno amigo" asumió sin rechistar todas las presiones e imposiciones, e incluso amenazas, del entonces conseller de Turismo, Iago Negueruela. Nunca levantaron la voz y solo se alegraron del fin del mandato
