LIVE!! Partial Solar Eclipse - 23 October 2014
On 23 October, part of the world will experience a partial Solar Eclipse, where the new moon passes between the Sun and the Earth. For this event, +Scott Lewis will join +Thad Szabo at Cerritos College in Norwalk California, where he'll be holding his astronomy lecture for the students in the astronomy classes he teaches. Joining them will be astrophysicist +Katie Mack all the way from Melbourne, Australia to add in on the discussion about the science of how and why eclipses occur, the safest way to observe them and many more interesting astronomical knowledge! The Q&A App will be turned on for YouTube and Google+, so feel free to ask us questions as the show goes on. Also, we'll turn on photo-sharing so if you're able to take your own shots of the eclipse, please share them with us!
Strong M8.7 Solar Flare - October 22, 2014
Active Region 12192 continues to produce sizable solar flares with 8 M-Class and an X1.1 barrage in less than four days, the latest a very strong M8.7 at 01:59 UTC this morning. As yet no significant Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) have followed these eruptions with the bulk of ejecta heading well south of the ecliptic plane. This Active Region will be earth-facing in 2-3 days, meanwhile the north eastern limb another significant active region is about to rotate onto the earth-facing side of the disk. Rückblick auf den 19.10.2014- Imágenes captadas del temporal que está azotando gran canaria. Las islas están sufriendo por el temporal que no solo ha llegado a la peninsula si no que además está llegando a varios puntos de españa. Tambien se han podido apreciar varias nevadas en algunos puntos asía como un gran oleaje dejando registros de hasta 9 metros de altura. Se espera que siga lloviendo durante toda la semana y se va a intentar restablecer el suministro eléctrico lo antes posible ya que muchas poblaciones se han quedado sin luz. La playa esta sufriendo un fuerte oleaje con olas gigantes de hasta 9 metros de altura.

Erster Schnee in den Alpen
Skifahrer und Wintersportarten sind im Glück. Während in Spanien die Hitze und Rekorde für diese Zeit in den Temperaturaufzeichnungen gibt, ist der erste Schnee in den Alpen gefallen. Ein Traum für Skifahrer-Fans. Eine Kaltfront aus dem Nordwesten hat dicken Schnee gebracht. In vielen Fällen haben die Meterhöhe, die Gegenden überschritten. Es ist etwas Außergewöhnliches das zu sehen, dass nur einmal bislang im Herbst stattfand. Die Ursache ist eine sehr nasse Kaltfront. Schweiz und Österreich sind die am meisten betroffenen Ländern und freuen sich, um in den kommenden Wochen die Skipisten zu öffnen. Im Glück ist man auch in Sölden, wo an diesem Wochenende die Eröffnung der alpine Ski-Weltcup stattfindet. Der Schneemangel hatte bereits die Organisatoren beunruhigt. In den kommenden Tagen wird der Himmel bedeckt bleiben, und Regen wird kommen. Spanische-Ski-Liebhaber können den Schneemann in den Alpen an diesem Wochenende geniessen. RAW: Gas leak explosion in Germany caught on camera
Authorities say one person was killed and eleven were injured in an explosion after a gas pipe was damaged during construction work in a western German city. Police in Ludwigshafen said the explosion outside a house in the city happened midday Thursday. Gas Transport Company Gascade said it wasn't clear why the gas pipe, part of a 57-kilometre (35-mile) pipeline that leads southward to the city of Karlsruhe, was damaged during work that it commissioned.
