Update 05:13 UTC : Based on our experience and the first reports from Algeria we do not expect a lot of serious damage. Until now we have seen reports of only a few injured people because of panic. Our own Experience Reports (below in red) are NOT describing damage neither. They mostly report a moderate to strong shaking but NO damage.
Below the theoretical shaking values and number of population exposed to the shaking.

Update 04:53 UTC : The strongest earthquake since 1900 in the greater area of today was a M6.8! earthquake in 2003 (see map below). The 2003 earthquake left 9 people dead and 190 injured. Todays earthquake is a lot weaker but closer to a very populated area. If we only see slight damage today we will be happy.
Update 04:44 UTC : Earthquake-Report.com expects at least slight damage but we fear for serious damage in some parts of the coast with no earthquake resistant houses.
