Floods and power cuts on Christmas Day as storms strike UK
Thousands of people in South East England were stranded in their homes and without electricity on Wednesday, after flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
Around 50,000 homes in Surrey, West Sussex and Kent were without power on Christmas morning. Meanwhile, firefighters worked through the night rescue people stuck in their cars and houses after the storms also brought flooding to the South East.
Local residents were shocked to see such large amounts of water and had their hands full trying to remove it from outside their homes.
One man showed the flooded area inside the block of flats where he lives. Another resident affected left without power said the bad weather had "ruined" Christmas for her.
More properties in the region could suffer from flooding over the next few days with weather warnings still in place for much of South East England.
